Me at Colonial Brewing (2)

Hello!

When I started this blog in 2012 I didn’t really know what would become of it. I have met some great people along the way, beer people are the best people, and I am proud to contribute to Crafty Pint and Froth Magazine and was a finalist in Media category in the 2016 Australian International Beer Awards.

I’ve spent the better part of 10+ years either pouring beers as a bartender/manager or selling beer as a rep and, of course, enjoying many beers along the way. I started girl+beer as a way of continuing my beer journey with the hopes of sharing it with a few people too.

Here you’ll find ramblings on the beers I’ve enjoyed, beer events, interviews with brewers and beer people, attempts at my own beer and food pairing, a little home cooking and a fair amount of cheese eating – all in the name of another good beer experience!

Thank you for reading, there’s lots of funny cat/laser pointer videos on the internet so if you’re here I think that’s pretty darn nice of you!

P.S. You can follow me on the usual social media stuffs – Facebook, Twitter and Instagram

UPDATE: As of 1 June 2015 I started working Sales & Marketing for Nail Brewing. After much thought I decided to continue with girl+beer, I enjoy writing this blog and meeting new people from it immensely. I will, however, not be featuring Nail Brewing here anymore.

Some other stuff I’ve done

Sharing my love for beer with more and more people makes me very happy and I’m lucky that girl+beer has given me the opportunity to get involved with a variety of media and events.

Just stumbled across your writings today (looks like I won’t be getting much work done now). Awesome to meet another craft beer enthusiast in the south-west! Feel free to check out the West Aussie Brew Crew if you’re interested in meeting some local brewers and maybe sampling a few home brews.

    Keep up the good work!

Hi Pia! After seeing you featured in scoop, I knew that my husband would be attending your Master Class at Beer Fest in Fremantle – LOVED the cheese!!! I wanted to send you a private message with a query – is that possible? Kari

Many would say you just haven’t found your beer yet! You never know, one day you might find one that you fall in love with!

Great blog here! Love to see the passion you have for the craft scene! I also have a small beer related section on my blog for reviews. I will be adding to it and documenting some results from my all-grain home-brew batches soon. But seriously, that list you have made my jaw drop haha!

Thanks! Love getting feedback and heading people enjoying the blog. Looking forward to reading about your home brew adventures soon too, it’s not something I’ve gone in to so I do enjoy living vicariously through home brewers!

Nothing like some vicarious beer appreciation 😛 I’m not sure if you’re at the craft fest tomorrow, but if I run into you I’ll introduce myself. Would love for you to sample one of my beers one day! – Darren

I rarely say no to a beer that’s for sure!

Hope you enjoyed the festival 🙂 I only went on Saturday but a top day!

    Hello.

Are you heading over for GABS this year?

I am going to Brewers & Chewers at the Local Taphouse on Wed 21st and plan to hit the Royal Exhibition Centre for Session 3. Can hardly wait…

I sure am! So excited! I went to Brewers & Chewers last year … amazing event – you’ll love it! I’m going to check out SourFest that night

I was there last year too! Classic.

    Anything else you can recommend?

I really enjoyed the Boatrocker Palate Cleanser, amazing beers and down to earth lovely people. It was a really good way to revive the palate after a LOT of hops! Beer and Cheese at The Local Taphouse was also pretty great too.

Hey, so great to ‘meet’ another Perth blogger (particularly another girl who likes beer; my friends – particularly the girls – just think I’m weird). I just found you via a link at The Precinct! Great blog. I will definitely be reading up on some beer recommendations x

Hi Laura, nice to “meet” you too! I’m okay being weird, I prefer “wonderfully weird” though! Thanks for reading my ramblings and for getting in touch, hopefully we will cross paths soon!

Cracking list Sean and so good to see a bar putting as much thought into their beer offering as their wine and food!

Hi Pia, I own a Liquor Store in the Perth Hills. We have an extensive and growing selection of great beers from far and wide. As you have many beer contacts would it be too much to ask to put the word out that we are looking for someone with knowledge and enthusiasm to run our beer section.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Pia,
I love your blog! It’s great to hear from other girls who love beer. You should check out this great product my friends and I have put together- It’s called the Snake Bite and it’s a church key and bottle opener with a leather key fob. I’d love to send you a sample if you’d be interested in reviewing it for your site. You can check us out on http://www.snakebiteco.com, or reach me at media@snakebiteco.com.

Just discovered your blog and I am so thirsty for five o’clock to arrive now:) My name is Trace, and I am in the startup world in Perth getting my Travel App up and out there- I am working on a beer and bike tour of Fremantle at the moment, would you be keen to do a beer safari of your favourite pubs and bars in Perth/freo? Please swing me an email and let’s get chatting, I would love to catch up and of course, have a beer over it all!

    Hi there!
I have seen a bunch of your stuff around on Insta and fb! Looks like you’ve got a pretty good knowledge of the craft beer scene in the South west!
I’m just wondering if you had stashed away in that knowledge any info on brewing courses around the Perth area? I’m looking at getting into it and haven’t as yet been able to find anything solid other than costanzas brewing course over 4 days. I think ECU used to do a year long course but no longer do. And I’ve stumbled across degrees brewery as part of ECU but can’t work out if they do still run a course from there.
If you have any info that would be super helpful!
Also if you could try not to post too many photos of the Norfolk that would be great. I’m in Europe for another 2 months and the Norfolk is my absolute favourite pub. It makes me incredibly homesick haha all good 😉 post away!
    Thanks
    Keegan.

      Hey Keegan,
      Thanks for your message!
I’m afraid I don’t much any information other than I know that the brewing courses don’t happen at ECU anymore. I am not sure if there are plans to bring it back but if they do I am sure they’ll have no problems filling spaces as you’re one of several people I know wanting to do it.
Sorry I wasn’t more helpful, hopefully you can find a great pub in Europe to serve you an amazing beer we can get here in Australia 😛
Thanks for reading! Maybe I’ll see you around Fremantle when you get home!
      Cheers.

        Hey Pia!
Thanks for the response! That’s all good though I’ll keep trying my luck and see what plans I can come up with!
And if I catch you out at the Norfolk I’ll come and say g’day!
        Cheers.
