Weekend Reading #67

This weeks articles include a bit of hop history, the result of a lawsuit, a look into being a beer rep and fun things happening at Indian Ocean Brewery.

For those quiet moments on the weekend when you’re able to catch up on a little reading – Weekend Reading is a weekly (ahem, usually) post with the articles I’ve enjoyed in the past seven days.

Forbes | The Debate Over Hops In Craft Beer Is Positively Medieval

If you like a little history with your beer reading then you’ll like this article that goes into some of the history of hops.

Consumerist | Judge Dismisses Blue Moon “Craft Beer” Lawsuit Against MillerCoors (Again)

It’s interesting to wonder what would have happened had this guy won his lawsuit against MillerCoors, the complaint basically being that MillerCoors have been deceiving customers with Blue Moon as a small independent brewery. If the ownership of a company, be it beer or not, is important to you then you need to peel back the marketing and take a look, worst case scenario maybe you spend a full minute or two Googling to find out.

The Crafty Pint | A Day in the Life of: A Beer Rep

This is a pretty good little look at the average day of a beer rep. Sure there is a lot of beer involved but there is also a lot of emails, a lot of phone calls and a lot of rejection. The community of beer reps though is pretty amazing. It’s all summed up pretty well in this piece.

The Crafty Pint | Where Art Meets Science Meets Art

I think Indian Ocean Brewery will be great to watch for the rest of the year. With Jack Purser having taken over the head brewer five or so months ago they’ve got some new looks, new beers and came back from this years Australian International Beer Awards with some medals too.
