I love lounging in bed on weekends and catching up on all my favourite beery reading. From blogs to articles from the American craft beer scene and the best local beer news, there’s excellent reading material out there so every Friday I’m posting a list of the articles and blogs that have excited me.
Weekend Reading has been on a bit of an hiatus due to a higher than normal ratio of beer drinking to beer reading attributed to WA Beer Week.
Speaking of which I will take this opportunity to draw your attention to some of a great events I was lucky enough to get to during WA Beer Week –
- Mane Liquor Spectacular – including a brewer with a keg in his backpack
- South West in the City II – ‘Too Many Cooks’ but just the right amount of beer
- Beer & Food Masterclass – including one of the best desserts I’ve ever had!
- Dude Food Feast – the biggest food coma outside of Christmas
- Ladies Beer Tasting – including Mash’s limited release Scotch Ale that’s very, very tasty
- Co-Op Beer Lunch – find food, fine dining and damn fine beer

Australian Financial Review | Beer, it’s not just for blokes
The wonderful Kirrily Waldhorn, aka the Beer Diva, features heavily in this article about the rise of craft beer and the almost total neglect by the big brewers in acknowledging their female audience.
“Initiatives in the past globally have centred around female specific beers, but no one wants that. Bigger issues are language and how beer is presented to women,”
Kirrily Waldhorn
Munchies | This beer maid will work Oktoberfest until she dies
I couldn’t help but read this and think that it sounded mostly awful. What I love about bartending is meeting people, hearing stories and seeing customers leave happy. What I hate is hoards of drunk people who behave poorly and with no consideration for others. I think Oktoberfest would fall into the latter category. Having said that the waitress in question Sonja does seem to truly love the festival.

Table Matters | Smoky the Beer
Between my love of a good beer and love of a good pun this article ticks a lot of boxes for me. I happen to have a number of smoky beers in our fridge right now. As a style I really enjoy these but they are certainly not something you’d pick up and drink on any old sunny afternoon. I really need to feel like a little peat, a little campfire to crack open a smoked beer.
Wired | Ingenious tap system serves the perfect beer every time
My partner sent me this article – if you love beer and ‘Back to the Future’ movies then you’ll want to read this!
Serious Eats | 10 rib-sticking mac and cheese recipes to get you through winter
Not really a beer article but when you’re having mac & cheese you’re not going to be reaching for a glass of Shiraz are you?!
Wow everything looks so good! 🙂
